Being Green
We love the outdoors, the flowers, the trees,
the wildlife... what's not to like?

Here at Knightstone we are doing our best to be good for the environment. From the start we have always had solar power to power all lighting. From 2023 we have moved on to a larger green energy set-up and introduced further solar panels with a wind turbine. Our new hut being even more environmentally friendly has solar and gas run underfloor heating.
We have recently installed a number of bird boxes, an owl house and bat boxes, and have also bought a bat monitor to identify the bats flying around our site. In your accommodation you will find, many books to help you identify the flora and fauna around our site, we always like to hear what you have seen.
In January 2014 it came to the news that there were beavers living on the River Otter going through the bottom of our fields. Close family friend Tom Buckley came to us in the summer of 2013 and said that he thought something strange was going on, as if someone was hacking at the trees with an axe. After closer inspection and night cameras it became clear that we had some new friends. We were fascinated with our new arrivals and the news soon spread.
In early 2015, Devon’s beavers have been granted permission to stay on the River Otter for a five year trial. Keep up to date with the trial here. We will be doing beaver tours from the tent so watch this space!
All of our cleaning products have also changed to Ecover which are plant and mineral-based formulas. We have also just introduced new refillable soap dispensers to cut down on plastic waste.
